I think I check all of the areas I would find the answer to my question, but I haven't found it.

I am making an anklet and using string/strands in excessive length. Does anyone have any advice in working with strands in excessive length. I'm finding it more challenging than actually working the pattern. Everything is always tangled! =(

Any advice, tips, or trick would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Amanda

Wrap your thread around little bobbins or pieces of cardboard.

You could start in the middle of the pattern. This way all strings to work with are just half as long. Just make a knot in the middle of the bracelet to keep all strings together, then put the side of the strings you are not knotting with aside (wrap them around a piece of cardboard, make loops out of itor whatever) and just work with the other side, when you've finished with this side just turn the bracelet around.
You can do this with most patterns.
With 1212-patterns and alpha-style it's not hard to find out the string order anyways, only with standard patterns there might be some problems with the string order. In most cases it's not too hard to figure it out though.

I just doesn't work if you want to start with loops, but if you use some kind of braids it works like a charm.

Also, there are many threads with instructions on how to replace a string. Sometimes, working with overlong string isn't worth the hassle. Okay, make that most of the time. ;)

To the response suggesting to use bobbins or pieces of cardboard. Do you do that with working strands in a project or was that a suggestion for organizing my thread collection in general?

Thanks.

You can do it for either. I will usually do it when I'm making an alphabet bracelet so I don't have to work with the entire length of the background thread, but if you're making a long bracelet you can do it for that too.
