I don't know if this link works, but try anyway...a picture of something similar I think.

These are similar techniques, but I think it´s much simpler:

- choose a pattern with a even number of the same colour (I mean there have to be always at least 2 (or 4 or 6) threads of every colour
- cut them not as single, but double threads (for 2 threads of 90 cm, cut 1 thread of 180 cm)
- chose the colour of the loop and make the thread of this colour longer than the others
- fold the threads in half
- in the middle, wrap the longer thread tightly around the others to make the loop

I made a drawing, it´s a bit basic, but I hope it helps:

I haven´t tried this myself, I think the problem could be that it unwraps itself easily, maybe you have to make some knots at the beginng and the end of the loop to prevent this.

Too true. I've tried this wrapped loop a time or two, and it always undid itself before it was even finished. If you look closely at the picture, you'll see what I mean, though to a much lesser extent. I guess that's why most people prefer to use either the bracelet buckle or the Chinese staircase for a loop.

I never understood how to do the buckle. I've tried dozens of times, but it's like I'm missing something in the instructions.

I'm sure people prevent it from unraveling by tying a knot thing like the ones used in the Chinese staircase??

EDIT: Wow totally just realized I repeated what was already said...
